Every time I see one, I wonder...why the hell does it need SUV levels of ground clearance? Or at least they look rather lifted.

I don’t think that’s an unpopular opinion. The Mk4/5 golfs were pretty mediocre overall. And the Astra was a very solid hatchback. I liked them and had I been a new car buyer, I probably would’ve considered one. Sadly by the tie I had the money to buy a used one, I was actually shopping for a brand new car so I skipped it over. But my best friend’s older brother got one and we all loved that thing. He got it from my dad when one was a trade in and needed some maintenance and minor work. Drove it for 3 years before some major services came up and he wanted to move overseas so he sold it for cheap to someone else and so it went....

Like, as a car? Or looks? I’m willing to give it to you if we’re comparing Mk5s. Mk6 on though? The Golf leaves the Astra for dead. Unfortunately we never got the hot rod version of the Astra though.
